About Agriturismo Baccole — Our Story, Our Land, Our Passion

Welcome to Agriturismo Baccole – A Slice of Puglian Paradise

Step through the gates of Agriturismo Baccole, and you leave the rush of modern life behind. The air shifts — heavy with the scent of wild herbs, sun-warmed stone, and olive leaves rustling in the afternoon breeze. Cicadas hum their steady chorus. A vine-covered pergola casts dappled shade across a wooden table set with rough linens and hand-painted ceramics.

We are nestled in the quiet heart of Puglia, that sun-blessed heel of Italy where the Adriatic and Ionian seas meet. Here, time moves differently. Meals stretch into the evening. Conversations linger. The idea of hurrying feels foreign. This is not a hotel in the ordinary sense. This is our home, and we welcome you to share it.

Our Story — Born from a Love of the Land

Agriturismo Baccole did not begin as a business plan. It began as a dream rooted in the red soil of our family’s land. For generations, our family worked these fields — pruning olive trees that have stood for centuries, tending vines that produce grapes heavy with promise, and harvesting vegetables under the fierce Puglian sun.

The old masseria, the traditional farmhouse that now houses our guests, sat quietly for years. It was where tools were stored, where the harvest was brought in, where the family gathered after long days in the fields. When the decision came to restore it, the goal was simple: to share this life, this land, and this pace with travelers seeking something real.

We did not want to build a resort. We wanted to preserve the soul of the place. Every stone was cleaned by hand. Every beam was preserved. The kitchen remained where it always was — the heart of the house. When we opened our doors, it was not to strangers, but to future friends.

Our Philosophy — La Dolce Vita, Slowed Down

You have heard the phrase la dolce vita. The sweet life. But at Baccole, we do not treat it as a slogan. It is a daily practice. For us, it means eating what the season provides. It means picking tomatoes still warm from the sun, pressing olives within hours of harvest, and pouring wine made from grapes grown a hundred meters from your table.

Slow travel here is not about doing nothing. It is about doing everything with intention. Wander through the olive groves in the early morning. Help Nonna roll orecchiette in the kitchen. Taste the difference between an olive oil harvested in October and one harvested in November. Sit by the pool as the sky turns from gold to rose to deep violet.

Sustainability at Baccole is not a marketing word. It is the only way we know. Our vegetable garden is organic. We compost. We source locally wherever possible. We believe that caring for the land is the same as caring for our guests.

Meet the People Behind the Welcome

Every agriturismo has a soul, and at Baccole, that soul is woven from the people who fill it with life.

There is Nonna Elena, our matriarch and the keeper of the fire. She learned to cook at her mother’s side, and her hands move with a certainty that only decades of practice can bring. Her sugo simmers for hours. Her focaccia is legendary. She does not use recipes — only memory and feel. If you are lucky, she will sit with you after dinner and tell you stories of the old days.

Her son, Marco, runs the vineyard and the olive groves. He knows every vine by heart. He can tell you exactly why this year’s oil tastes different from last year’s. He wakes before dawn during the harvest and works until the light fades. His hands are rough, his smile is wide, and his passion for this land is infectious.

Chiara, his daughter, is often the first face you see when you arrive. She speaks three languages, greets every guest like a long-lost relative, and makes sure every detail of your stay feels effortless. She is the bridge between our world and yours.

Our Land — Olive Groves, Vineyards, and Gardens

Our property spans hectares of rolling Puglian countryside. At its heart stand olive trees that have watched over this land for centuries. Their trunks are gnarled and thick, their leaves silver-green in the changing light. When you walk among them, you feel the weight of time.

Beyond the olive groves lie our vineyards. We grow varieties native to Puglia — Negroamaro, Primitivo, and Verdeca. The grapes are harvested by hand in late summer, and the wine is made with minimal intervention. It is honest wine, meant to be shared over good food and better conversation.

Our kitchen garden supplies much of what reaches your plate. Zucchini flowers in spring, tomatoes and eggplants in summer, wild greens and fennel in autumn. Guests are welcome to wander through, to pick a handful of basil, to see where their meal began.

And then there is the quiet. The kind of quiet that lets you hear the wind moving through the wheat fields. The kind of quiet that settles into your bones and reminds you what rest feels like.

What Our Guests Say — Real Stories, Real Hearts

We do not collect reviews for show. We keep them because they remind us why we do this. Here is what some of our guests have shared:

“Staying at Baccole was like being invited into someone’s home and being treated like family. Chiara made us feel so welcome, and the food was absolutely unforgettable. We left feeling like we had truly experienced Puglia, not just visited it.” — Sarah and Tom, UK

“The most authentic agriturismo we have ever stayed at. The land, the people, the food — everything is genuine. Marco took us on a tour of the olive groves and explained the entire process of making olive oil. You cannot buy that kind of experience.” — David, Canada

“I cried when I left. Not from sadness, but from gratitude. This place healed something in me.” — Elena, Germany

Come and Stay — Your Puglian Home Awaits

We do not promise luxury in the traditional sense. There is no spa, no minibar, no elevator. What we offer is something rarer: a place where you can slow down, breathe deeply, and connect — with the land, with the people, with yourself.

Whether you come for a week or a weekend, we will welcome you as family. You will eat at our table, walk our paths, and carry a piece of this place with you when you go.

Browse our rooms when you are ready. Or simply take a moment to dream. The olive trees will still be here when you arrive.
